Thomas McCormack

About the Facilitator

Thomas McCormack facilitates individuals, groups and teams who have reached a point where their existing ways of thinking, working or relating are no longer creating the movement they need.

His particular strength is working with groups that have come a distance but have become stuck, are navigating change or transition, or sense that something is getting in the way of their development without yet being able to clearly identify what it is.

Thomas creates the conditions for people to slow down, think together and become more aware of what is happening beneath the obvious issue. Through attentive listening, thoughtful questioning, observation and challenge, he helps groups bring unspoken assumptions, dynamics and perspectives into the conversation so that new possibilities can emerge.

Thomas facilitates a process through which the group can develop its own understanding, identify what needs to change and cultivate solutions and capabilities from within.

His work is particularly suited to groups and teams who want not simply to address an immediate challenge, but to develop their capacity to think, communicate, make decisions and work together differently beyond the facilitation itself.

Group Facilitation

Thomas works with groups and teams around:

  • Stuckness and developmental thresholds — when a group has tried to move forward but something continues to limit progress.

  • Change and transition — supporting groups to understand and work with what is emerging when established ways of working are changing.

  • Unspoken dynamics — helping groups notice assumptions, patterns and relational dynamics that may be influencing how they work together.

  • Collective reflection and learning — creating space for groups to step back from their day-to-day activity, examine what is happening and learn from their experience.

  • Developing collective capacity — helping groups become better able to think together, navigate complexity and generate their own solutions.

  • Leadership and organisational development — supporting leaders and teams where questions of people, purpose, responsibility, identity and direction are interconnected.

Thomas can facilitate groups at different stages of development, from groups seeking greater clarity and cohesion to established teams facing a significant challenge, transition or opportunity for growth. Thomas has experience facilitating and working with individuals and groups across the education, health, legal and financial sectors, in public and private organisations as well as with self-employed and independent practitioners.

Individual Coaching and Thinking Partnership

Alongside his group facilitation work, Thomas works individually with people who carry responsibility for their own work, business, leadership or development.

His individual clients include leaders, managers, business owners, practitioners and self-employed people who are navigating growth, transition, complexity or a point of stuckness.

He acts as a coach and thinking partner, offering a space to think out loud, test assumptions, explore what may be difficult to see from within and develop a clearer basis for action.

This individual work complements his group facilitation: the same attention to what is spoken and unspoken, the same emphasis on awareness and responsibility, and the same intention of helping people develop their own capacity to move forward.
